Three years ago, Krista Schumacher moved to La Jolla and made the decision to pursue her art career full-time. Here is a timeline of events and exhibitions, twists and turns, and a reflection and celebration of the beginning of her art journey.
La Jolla: Art Gem of San Diego
Year 1, Sep 2017-2018
When we moved to San Diego, we fell in love with La Jolla. In many ways, La Jolla is the art gem of San Diego. It is home to the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, numerous galleries, and the La Jolla Art + Wine Festival. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up as a full-time studio artist in La Jolla, CA. In the past three years, I've been overwhelmed with the amount of community support for my artwork. Thank you!
LA JOLLA ART + WINE FESTIVAL
Krista Schumacher's first exhibition was at the La Jolla Art + Wine Festival in 2017. In many ways, this art show was her introduction to the San Diego art scene.

At this time, Schumacher was mainly focusing on animal brushwork, and only brought one palette knife abstract painting to the show (pictured right). Schumacher was not planning on bringing this painting, but her mom encouraged her. While Schumacher did abstract palette knife work on the side, and it was the type of art she personally liked, she was unsure what others may think of it. This painting, Fusion, was her first painting to sell in La Jolla and inspired her to further pursue her ultimate passion: palette knife painting.
Fusion was one of Schumacher's first palette knife paintings. Here it is pictured in a collector's home in La Jolla, CA.
After the La Jolla Art Show, Schumacher decided to focus her time and energy in creating her first collection: ABSTRACTION. Above, is the promo video Schumacher made to promote her new works.
ABSTRACTION was release online in Feb. 2017. Schumacher created these flyers and went to over 40 businesses to introduce herself, and promote her new collection. One of the businesses she walked into was Ligne Roset La Jolla.

In the summer of 2018, Krista Schumacher had a solo exhibition with La Playa Gallery in La Jolla Shores. During her exhibition, Schumacher frequently painted live outside the gallery. In turn, she met many locals, and grew her following in San Diego.

CARS, CORONADO, AND COVID
Year 3, Sep 2019-2020
My third year in San Diego was filled with the highest of highs, and lowest of lows. The year was dedicated to celebrating my art, but this time, with my mom. It is was beyond special. My mom, Kathy, who lives in is also a palette knife artist. Our year started with our Ferrari exhibition, and unfortunately, ended with COVID. Due to COVID, all art shows and events were cancelled for the remainder of the year. With that being said, COVID has allowed me to really focus on my studio practice, and online presence.
